Apple is the most loved mobile company all over the world. Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company that designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. The company’s hardware products include the iPhone smartphone, the iPad tablet computer, the Mac personal computer and many more. Apple introduced the first generation of iPhones in 2007, selling almost 1.4 million units worldwide in the first year the smartphone was on the market. Over the past few years, sales of the Apple iPhone have seen a strong increase reaching 231 million units by 2015. However, with the iPhones and iPads in the hands of millions, people are still confused about the ways to create Apple ID and iCloud ID. Also, despite the fact that there are millions of Apple users nowadays, it seems that the difference between the Apple ID and iCloud ID accounts and passwords is still unclear. So, we thought we’d briefly explain what each of these is and then look to see how they differ and how they can be similar in various circumstances.
Apple ID / Apple Account
Apple ID is the account that is used to do everything associated with Apple’s products from the iPhone to the iPad to the Mac to Apple TV.. With the Apple ID one can purchase apps and install it. Apple ID can be used to log on to iTunes where you can buy music and listen to it. In a nutshell, the Apple ID can be used to log into various Apple products, such as iMessage, iCloud, the iTunes Store and the Apple Store. It allows Apple users to shop products such as games, music and application form the Apple Store.
iCloud ID / iCloud Account
iCloud is an account that gives you access to synchronize and store your data on multiple devices. It is the cloud service provided by Apple which means that all your data i.e. photo library, contacts, reminders, notes, voice clips everything on your devices (iphones, ipads, macs) would be stored in cloud which is safe and can be accessed any time and anywhere online.
Therefore, the Apple ID and the iCloud ID are two different accounts, but the confusion comes that they can be accessed with the same email ID. The iCloud email ID can be used as an Apple ID. We can sign in to Apple after you have created the iCloud email ID or the process can be vice-versa which means the Apple ID can be used for signing into the iCloud -when you log into the iCloud, the email address and password are your Apple ID. The iCloud can be thought of as an extra service added on top of the Apple ID login. And as they are so tightly linked, they can often be considered the same account.
But, your Apple ID can also be a third party email addresses other than @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com email such as @gmail.com, @outlook.com, @hotmail.com etc. While it may seem confusing to sign into both your Apple ID and iCloud on your iPad, it’s actually a pretty cool feature. It allows you to share an iCloud account with your spouse so both can access iCloud Photo Library and other cloud features while keeping the Apple ID separate.
